You will come way better informed about the difficulty of having ideals in a fallen world, and the dangers of trying to live by them. It turns out Han Fei’s thought, as represented by the selections here, is not only much more nuanced, but even uncomfortably persuasive. In any case, it’s always a pleasure to read ancient philosophy, especially feixi as straightforward and digestible as these.
